The HCFMA has been an active collaborator in a 3-year field research project to test the effectiveness of natural non-toxic remedies to control garlic pests. Both leek moth and bulb and stem nematodes have been an increasing problem causing significant crop-loss to local garlic producers. This research project, funded by the Agricultural Adaptation Council’s Growing Forward 2 program (GF-2), has engaged local growers as citizen scientists partners. The September issue of the Ontario Stewardship Network’s newsletter, Sno Squall, reports on the project and their participation. http://stewardshipnetwork.ca/sno-squall/
